- Lighting for a Video ShootSpeaker 1: Jim SippelDescription: Part 1: Practical approach to lighting your set -- Ever wonder where to start when lighting a scene? Jim will demonstrate how to approach lighting your studio set based on where lighting would naturally come from. Where your lights can be placed and how to approach your set with minimal lighting. This approach will also work for your location shoots. Part 2: Short Film lighting on a short budget -- Jim will present a case study from the recent WCCC Christmas short film production of "Reaching Alice". Demonstrating how his team used different light set ups for various scenes and locations, Jim will break down selected INT/EXT scenes and show how lights were set for camera blocking in the scene and why, including lighting an exterior snow scene for the length of a city block!
- Cleaning up Audio for VideoSpeaker 1: Ryan PribylSpeaker 2: Jeff BeaumontDescription: Sound is 50 percent of the moviegoing experience. Every video needs great audio! In this class, we'll look at basic audio post 'round trip' from the edit (FCP7, Avid MC6, Premiere Pro 5.5) to a few daws (ProTools 10, Nuendo 5.5, Adobe Audition and Sound Track Pro). We'll discuss common problems with dialog and ways to clean up that dialog or synch recordings using noise reduction software as well as eq and compression techniques for dialog (Vo or Location Sync). We'll also look at processing and editing techniques for Music and Sound Design. We'll discuss what is Foley and when it is preferred over SFX Library and ways to make each work in a given situation. We'll discuss mixing for large venues and things to watch for in output limiting, levels and metering. Finally, we'll discuss the final master and how to export the final comp and also splits or stems for future revisions.
