We recently added a Videos page to host some unique behind the scenes interviews as well as full coverage of the main sessions from Gurus13. Watch over at www.gurusoftech.com/videos/

We also collected 42 of our favorite pictures from the event and housed them in a facebook album. Click through them here.

What is Gurus?

Several years ago a group of local church tech guys started connecting each year at NAB to share ideas and make new friendships. About 15 guys met at a local church in Vegas and Gurus was born. Since then, hundreds of tech folks have joined in at Gurus as the events have grown to include classes, activities, sessions, gear to tinker with, and much more all across the country. Take a look at some photos from last year’s Gurus event here on facebook.

What We’re About…

The heart behind Gurus has always been to encourage the guy or gal working in a technical or creative position at the local church. It’s a free conference and will remain that way because it’s really all about the community. Sure it’s a great place to check out the latest gear, but more importantly, Gurus is a place to get refreshed, inspired, and encouraged – a place to connect with other people that have similar roles and experiences. We can always learn something new regardless of the size and worship style of your church. Come join!

A few frequently asked questions…

Is Gurus really free?

You bet! Figure out travel, plan your meals, and then come enjoy the free conference! (But we do of course appreciate any help making this event possible.)

Who attends Gurus exactly?

Anyone serving in a technical, creative, or leadership role in any church denomination is welcome! This is your chance once a year to geek out with like minded people who love the church. It’s a place of encouragement, community, hanging out with other people who are in the trenches with you every week. We have tons of fun, learn some new things, get inspired, meet new people, and worship Jesus without any distraction or fear of pushing a button at the wrong time. If you are a staff or volunteer in any of these areas then you are a Guru — Technical Directors, Creative Staff, Video Editors, Audio Engineers, Lighting Directors, Producers, etc.

Classes are geared toward audio, video, lighting, post-production, scenic stage design, and leadership so bring your whole team!

Will this year’s event “sell-out”?

Last year, we did reach the legal limit for the building and had to “sell-out” the event. However, we have moved #gurus13 into Willow Creek’s main campus and therefore have a whole lot more room to work with. So, invite anyone you think might be interested!

Workshops and schedule?

We recognize that this information is key in making group plans to head to Gurus. This is our next top priority and we are working to get everything confirmed as soon as possible! Being a free conference, booking speakers and teachers can occasionally require some last minute schedule change-ups, but we will be sure to communicate everything as it develops!

Are meals included?

Lunch will be available on campus for you to purchase, and there are some incredible restaurants in the area. Or you can always convince a vendor to take you out to lunch!

How is Gurus funded?

If you read the above questions, you will know Gurus is funded by donations from you! But — Gurus is also funded by the incredible support of our vendors and hosts. Be sure to meet each of the vendors at the event and share some thanks as this event could definitely not happen without their support!

How can I get ahold of the folks behind Gurus?

If you have any questions or concerns, the best way to contact us is via twitter! Just reach out to us @gurusoftech !
